Ezina or Planta: the short answer
Use Planta if your plants are indoors, in pots, and you want a mature app you can install today. It is a shipped product with a large user base, and its own site says Planta users care for "more than 30 million plants."
Use Ezina if a meaningful share of your plants are in the ground outdoors, or if you want to see the source behind a care instruction. Ezina assesses your actual property, and its guidance carries citations.
Ezina is in closed alpha. Anyone can install the Android app, but creating an account still needs an access code, and public launch is February 2027. If you need a plant app working on your phone tonight, the honest answer on this page is one of the others.

Where Planta is the better choice
Planta ships today and Ezina does not. That is the single biggest difference, and for most people looking for an app right now it settles the question.
Planta is also more feature-complete for indoor collections. It names a Light Meter, Dr Planta for sick plants, Care Share for households caring for plants together, plant organization and journalling, and reminders for watering, fertilizing, misting, repotting, and cleaning. Ezina does not have an equivalent to Care Share.
Where Ezina is different
Ezina assesses the property, not the room. Its site assessment derives sun and shade, soil, slope, and drainage from your address, using USDA soil survey data and elevation models. Planta's approach to light is a Light Meter that reads the conditions of a room you point it at. Both are useful and they answer different questions: Planta tells you what a windowsill gets, Ezina tells you what a yard gets.
Ezina publishes its sources. Watering, light, hardiness, and treatment guidance carry the citation with the guidance, and the full list is public in the references. Planta does not publish a comparable source list.
Ezina publishes its price. Planta's website has "Download now" and "Buy now" links but states no cost anywhere on it, as of September 2, 2026. Ezina's price is on the pricing section of the home page: $6.99 per month or $70 per year at public launch.
Which one sells your data?
Neither claims to. Planta's help center states that it does not sell user information, and Ezina's transparency promise makes the same commitment along with the full list of every outside service that receives anything and what each one gets.
The difference is scope rather than intent: Ezina publishes the recipient list, what each recipient receives, and what is stripped before it leaves the device.
