Sow or Ezina?

Sow is built to design a yard. Ezina plans the yard and cares for everything in it, houseplants included, with cited advice.

We make Ezina, so read this knowing that. Every Sow fact below says where we found it.

Pick the one that fits what you grow

020.1Sow

Pick Sow if

  • You want to see a design on a photo of your yard.
  • You want to plan on the web as well as your phone.
  • You design yards for clients.
  • You want a free plan with plant ID.
020.2Ezina

  • You want pest and disease treatment where every step cites an extension service.
  • You care what an app shares about you, and want that written down.

§ 030 · Features

What each app does

Ezina Sow
Care
Watering YesFrom the local forecast, the heat and how the plant is planted. Outdoor beds get an amount in gallons; rain lowers it. PartlyAlerts for heat waves, dry spells and drought, from its Care notifications. Its pricing page lists smart watering under Pro.
Other reminders YesFertilizing, and treatment steps that repeat on the interval their source gives. YesA weekly list of jobs for each space, such as prune, deadhead, pests and feed, timed to your zone and season.
Indoor rooms YesSet a room's temperature and humidity once; every plant in it uses them. Not foundIts plant library is outdoor plants.
Light meter Yes Sun hoursAn AR sun-path tool estimates the hours of direct sun at a spot, per its listing. It does not measure light.
Share care YesSend a link. The plant sitter can log waterings without the app or an account. ProA household of up to 5 people comes with Pro.
Identify and fix
Plant ID YesTwo services, Plant.id and Pl@ntNet, blended, with the match percentage shown. 1 credit per check; Early Access includes 50 a month. Yes, freePhoto ID with a confidence score and other likely matches, on the free plan.
Insect ID YesMore than 14,000 insects and other invertebrates. PartlyIts Plant Doctor covers pests as a plant problem; we found no insect ID.
Disease and pest treatment Yes300+ plans. Every step cites a university extension, a U.S. agency or the RHS, least invasive first. YesCheck a plant from a photo, and Doctor guides that say how to spot each problem and what to do next. We didn't check whether diagnosis is limited on the free plan.
Care advice sources CitedExtension services, USDA and peer-reviewed research, attached to the advice. Not publishedIts Doctor guides cite no sources.
Plant experts NoQuestions go to us by email, and bug reports from the app. PartlyBloomBot, an AI assistant, and questions to its community. We found no named experts.
Garden and outdoors
Outdoor plants YesBeds, in-ground plants and containers outside. YesMore than 12,000 trees, shrubs, perennials, grasses, vegetables and groundcovers.
What to plant when YesA planting calendar from your frost dates. YesA seed calendar with indoor, outdoor and harvest dates for each plant, adjusted for your location.
Garden planning YesDig maps your lot from an address: trees from a laser survey, sun for every daylight hour, frost pockets and runoff. Then it lays out beds that fit. YesMaps of your yard from above, designs drawn on a photo of it, and a sun-hours tool. Planting plans need Pro.
Native and invasive YesNative status by county, and invasive status from 43 contiguous states' lists. PartlyNative means North American native, not native where you live. Its picks for natives and pollinators in zone 7b included common morning glory, and we found no invasive warning.
Hardiness zone YesYour zone is on the planting calendar. YesFound from your address, or picked by hand.
Log, calendar and impact
Notes and photos YesThe Log: entries with photos, notes and tags. Waterings, treatments and plantings file themselves. YesA Journal of photos and notes for each space, on the free plan.
Wildlife and species list YesTag the birds, pollinators and insects you see. The Life list counts every species. Not foundIt shows wildlife spotted near you, not a list of what you see.
Calendar YesA week view of planting, watering, treatment and frost dates. PartlyA seed calendar for each plant and a weekly list of jobs, not one calendar of every task.
Ecological impact YesA planned bed shows the insects and birds its plants are recorded supporting. PartlyPollinator and butterfly-host tags on plants.
Community YesProfiles, a feed and comments. Photos are checked before they publish. YesA feed with likes, comments, follows and weekly design challenges.

§ 050 · Our edge

Where Ezina does better

  • It finds frost pockets and wet ground

From 1-meter elevation data, Dig shows where cold air settles and where rain runs and gathers, so beds go where they'll do well. Sow maps your yard from above but shows no frost pockets or runoff.

  • It knows what's native where you live

Native status by county, and invasive status from 43 contiguous states' lists. Sow's native filter is North American, and its zone 7b picks included common morning glory with no invasive warning.

  • It shows its sources

Every step of Ezina's 300+ treatment plans cites a university extension service, a U.S. agency or the RHS. We found no sources published for Sow's advice.

  • It identifies insects

More than 14,000 insects and other invertebrates, from a photo. Sow has no insect ID we could find.

  • It covers houseplants too

Set a room's temperature and humidity once and every plant in it waters to match, with a light meter to check a spot. Sow is built for outdoor plants.

  • It keeps your data yours

No tracking for ads, an export of everything from Settings, and a written promise never to sell your data. Sow's App Store label lists identifiers used to track you, and its settings have no export.

§ 060 · Fair's fair

Where Sow does better

  • It designs from a photo

Photograph your yard and it draws up to 9 designs with real plants, or drag plants onto the photo yourself.

  • It's cheaper

Sow Pro is $59.99 a year in its Android app and $39.99 on its website, and it has a free plan with plant ID.

  • It has a web app

Designs sync with its website, so you can plan on a big screen.

  • It has tools for landscapers

A pro mode adds clients, proposals and sign-off.

§ 070 · Questions

Questions about switching

Is Ezina cheaper than Sow?

No. Sow Pro is $59.99 a year in its Android app, or $39.99 on its website, and its free plan includes plant ID and one space. Ezina is $70 a year at launch ($50 for Early Access seats), after a 14-day trial with no card.

Does either app show ads?

Neither shows ads. Ezina's Transparency Promise commits to never running them. Sow shows plants on sale at online nurseries and says it takes no commissions; its App Store label lists identifiers as used to track you.

Can I move my plants from Sow to Ezina?

Not automatically. We found no export in Sow, so plants are added to Ezina one at a time or by photo identification.

Where can I use each app?

Ezina is in Early Access on iPhone and Android in the contiguous U.S. Sow is available on iPhone, iPad, Android and the web, in English, for U.S. zones 4 to 10.
